10985Healthcare workers are grateful to the people for their support, Deputy Chief Physician of Brest Oblast Teaching Hospital Vyacheslav Gavrilenko said as he met with representatives of the local branch of the Belarusian Union of Women, BelTA has learned.

“It is a difficult period, the workload is huge, but we are coping. We are very grateful for financial and moral support. There cannot be too much of it in this situation,” Vyacheslav Gavrilenko said. “A lot of people have decided to spend their time, energy, and money to support the healthcare system in this challenging time. This gives us strength. We are happy to know that we are not alone,” he noted. He added that doctors of the infectious diseases department get help from their colleagues from other departments of the hospital.

The Belarusian Union of Women has also decided to support the hospital and brought food for medical staff of the infectious diseases department. “We bought tea, coffee, sweets, preserves, and most importantly Easter bread – one of the main symbols of Easter. All in all, we put together 180 such packages for healthcare workers,” Chairwoman of the local branch of the Belarusian Union of Women Valentina Pukh said. The packages had been delivered to the hospital the day before.

The Belarusian Union of Women intends to continue helping medical staff. “We opened an account for donations. The Union of Women receives requests from all regions to provide healthcare workers with everything necessary,” Valentina Pukh noted. She added that a lot of residents, enterprises, and organizations of Brest Oblast stand ready to support healthcare workers. “I believe that this might even give doctors physical strength. They see that we stand together, trust them and believe that everything will be good and we will cope with this challenge,” Valentina Pukh said.
