7490Brest is hosting a regional conference on cardiovascular and eye diseases.

The event was made possible thanks to a cooperation agreement signed by the Healthcare Department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and Filatov Moscow City Clinical Hospital No. 15. The agreement envisages exchange of experience, knowledge, and best practices. “This conference marks the first stage of our cooperation. We have established contacts in the most crucial fields: cardiology and ophthalmology. I think that the scope of cooperation will expand in the future,” said Andrei Kornelyuk, First Deputy Head of the Healthcare Department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

The two-day-long conference has drawn together around 180 healthcare professionals from across Brest Oblast along with Moscow's leading cardiology and ophthalmology specialists. “We see prospects for cooperation. Both sides are interested in it. We plan to talk about the implemention of international recommendations in our hospital, treatment of heart attacks, acute diseases, and thromboembolism in compliance with modern requirements,” remarked Oleg Averkov, deputy chief physician of Filatov Moscow City Clinical Hospital No. 15. The professor added that Moscow doctors are keen to study the experience of their Brest colleagues.

According to Natalya Pobivantseva, chief physician of the Brest Oblast Cardiology Center, Brest doctors want to pay a return visit to Moscow and attend local master classes. “First of all, we are interested in learning about the acute coronary pathology, in other words, the modern treatment of heart attacks and preinfarction syndromes. The second thing is everything related to rhythmology," she added.

In turn, Belarusian and Russian ophthalmologists discussed glaucoma treatment. Dmitry Kats, head of the ophthalmology department and laser microsurgery department at Filatov Hospital, shared advanced knowledge in glaucoma diagnosis with the colleagues.

The conference is taking place at the Brest Oblast Cardiology Center and the Brest Central City Hospital. The event will last through 24 November.
