Belarus fully meets domestic demand for processed meat products

14/08/2025 14:08
MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) - Belarus has achieved full self-sufficiency and meets domestic market demand for processed meat products, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus.

"Belarus fully meets domestic market demand for processed meat products through its own domestic production. Over the past five years, the meat product manufacturing has posted consistent growth. With annual meat consumption averaging 103kg per capita, Belarus is the CIS leader in terms of per capita meat production. The 2024 self-sufficiency ratio reached 140.2%," the Agriculture and Food Ministry reported.

To optimize meat processing capacity and maximize output of sausage products, ready-to-eat meats, and canned meat, Belarus supplements domestic production with imported pork. "The majority of pork for industrial processing is imported from Russia, with the goal of processing and exporting it as value-added meat products," the press service stated.

Following efforts to secure additional pork supplies for industrial processing in 2024, meat processing plants affiliated with the Agriculture and Food Ministry achieved approximately 90% utilization of their production capacity.
