Belarus, Sri Lanka preparing to launch direct flights

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov met with Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs Viditha Herath on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties noted the progressive development of bilateral interaction and confirmed their readiness to hold the next round of political consultations at the level of deputy ministers and a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

The diplomats expressed satisfaction with the dynamics of cooperation in education and inter-university interaction, noting the growing number of Sri Lankan students studying in Belarus.

The ministers also focused on tourism development. “The upcoming signing of a package of bilateral documents, notably an intergovernmental air connectivity agreement, will boost tourism and increase passenger and cargo flows between the two countries,” the press service noted.

The discussion also touched upon interaction in international organizations. The Belarusian side expressed gratitude for the support from Sri Lanka and confirmed its interest in further strengthening the partnership in the interests of building a just multipolar world.

The ministers discussed the schedule of bilateral meetings for the upcoming year, including exchanging invitations for mutual visits.
