BREST, 4 July (BelTA) – Brest Oblast increased its exports to Southeast Asian countries by 14% in January – April 2026 compared with the same period in 2025,
Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik told BelTA.
“Southeast Asia is one of the promising directions for diversifying exports by Brest Oblast manufacturers. In the first four months of 2026, exports to the region grew by more than 14%. The key foreign trade partners are the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam,” Piotr Parkhomchik noted. Enterprises in Brest Oblast export dry milk products and whey, canned and preserved fish, and meat‑and‑bone meal. In turn, Southeast Asian countries supply fish, coffee, vegetable seeds, tires, batteries and other goods.
Brest Oblast is actively expanding interregional ties with Southeast Asia, and the interest is mutual. Both sides are keen to deepen cooperation across trade, the economy and social affairs. “This April, for instance, a big delegation from our sister province of Lao Cai in Vietnam came to Brest for the international forum “First Region: Territory of Success”. We are now preparing a return visit by our officials and business representatives,” the governor said.
China is Brest Oblast’s strategic partner in the Asian region. Total trade turnover has been growing steadily year by year, and export volumes are rising. “We are implementing a number of major investment projects with Chinese partners in the automotive industry, home appliance manufacturing and agricultural processing. Strong interregional ties have been established with the sister provinces of Anhui, Liaoning, Hubei and Shanxi. Bilateral cooperation documents have recently been signed between schools and universities in our region and Shanxi Province,” Piotr Parkhomchik remarked. There is also mutual interest in cooperation in healthcare. For example, a traditional Chinese medicine center has been opened at Brest Central City Hospital in cooperation with the medical university of Liaoning Province, and the two sides have established a regular exchange of expertise.
Representatives of China and Brest Oblast regularly exchange delegation visits. This year, official and business circles from Brest Oblast plan to take part in a number of international exhibition events in China, and an official visit to one of the sister provinces is also being planned.
