Brest Oblast to deepen ties with Uzbekistan’s regions in agriculture, manufacturing

BREST, 7 July (BelTA) – Brest Oblast will deepen cooperation with Bukhara Oblast and Syrdarya Oblast of Uzbekistan in the agro-industrial sector and manufacturing. This was discussed during a meeting between Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik and delegations from Bukhara Oblast and Syrdarya Oblast of Uzbekistan on 7 July, BelTA has learned.
Piotr Parkhomchik emphasized that Uzbekistan is a friendly country and a strategic partner for Belarus. “We have gained a good momentum in our relations. Trade increased last year. In 2026 it continued to grow: in January-April by 37.3%. We have common interests. It is important during this visit to discuss all issues and outline paths for further cooperation,” he said.
According to the governor, Brest Oblast is interested in cooperation with Syrdarya Oblast and Bukhara Oblast in the agro-industrial complex and manufacturing. “There are many points of contact in different areas. We would like to create a textile cluster. Perhaps during our further contacts we will build this work. Another issue is humanitarian cooperation: developing relations in education, healthcare, tourism,” Piotr Parkhomchik noted. “I like how we work in healthcare: we quickly moved from discussions to action, to systematic visits. Specialists learn from each other and exchange experience.”
Bukhara Oblast Deputy Hokim (Governor) Rizo Asadov also sees great potential in cooperation with the south-western region of Belarus. “We are ready for industrial cooperation in construction materials, furniture, pharmaceuticals and other sectors. The main focus is cooperation in agriculture. You have enormous achievements in the agro sector. The experience of Belarus is of great interest to Bukhara Oblast,” he said. The parties also agreed to study flax and cotton processing and textile production. A 2026-2027 action plan on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between Brest Oblast and Bukhara Oblast was signed on 7 July. “We have created a roadmap and will continue working according to it. Distance does not matter to us,” Rizo Asadov emphasized. He invited the Brest Oblast delegation to pay an official visit to Bukhara Oblast.
A similar 2026-2027 action plan was signed between Brest Oblast and Syrdarya Oblast. “The meeting was very productive. We can cooperate and develop together, engage in cooperation in various directions. We will also meet with business representatives. By the evening the picture will be clearer, with more precise agreements,” explained Bobur Khudzhamov, Syrdarya Oblast Deputy Hokim for investment issues. In his view, Belarusians and Uzbeks easily find common ground. “We reach agreements easily. People know each other, know the quality of goods. I think there are no difficulties,” he said.
The Uzbek delegation also visited the memorial complex Brest Hero Fortress on 7 July. The guests laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and honored the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland.
