CEC: 93 international observers accredited to observe presidential election in Belarus

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) - 93 international observers have already been accredited to monitor the presidential election in Belarus, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a CEC meeting in Minsk on 23 December, BelTA learned.

“93 foreign (international) observers have already been accredited to observe the election in the country. These include observers of the CIS mission, MPs, representatives of the Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned Movement, election authorities of foreign countries, independent observers,” Igor Karpenko said. 

The CEC head added that he had a meeting with the head of the CIS observation mission Sergei Lebedev on 18 December. “Sergei Lebedev said that the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk had deployed more than 50 long-term observers. About 150 more observers will arrive in Belarus a day or two before the election,” Igor Karpenko said. “On 20 December the CEC had a web-based meeting with international observers from CIS IPA and CIS IPA International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection.

“The CEC continues accreditation of foreign (international) observers,” Igor Karpenko said.

The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
