CEC: Belarus does not operate polling stations abroad

10/01/2025 12:01
MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - Belarus does not operate polling stations abroad, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Igor Karpenko told the media on 10 January, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus does not set up polling stations abroad. This legislative innovation is due to the lack of security measures at polling stations, which were previously operated in other countries, and also due to the reduction of diplomatic staff numbers. We are not the only country that does this,” Igor Karpenko said.

At the same time, Belarus has created conditions for the organization of voting for citizens of the Republic of Belarus, permanently residing abroad and registered at consulates, the CEC head said. “Such citizens will be able to vote at one of the six polling stations, which will be located in Minsk and five regional centers. The addresses of these polling stations are posted on the CEC website. We hope that neighboring countries will not create obstacles for our citizens to cross the border to exercise their electoral rights,” Igor Karpenko said.

Belarus’ presidential election is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
