China’s Shanxi Province is interested in deepening cooperation with Brest Oblast. Cooperation prospects were discussed during the Chinese delegation’s visit to the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, BelTA reports.
Brest Oblast and Shanxi Province have entered into an agreement on friendly relations this year. Now the parties are sounding each other out on cooperation options: the Chinese delegation is currently on a familiarization visit to the region. The Chinese guests were greeted by Brest Oblast Deputy Governor Dmitry Gorodetsky. He noted that the partners promptly responded to the invitation to visit the region that was made at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
“We will try to introduce the guests to the entirety of the trade, economic, investment, tourism, and cultural potential of Brest Oblast. I think this visit will give a strong impetus to cooperation and help build meaningful contacts between Shanxi Province and Brest Oblast, as well as between our companies,” the deputy governor said.
Deputy Chairman of the Shanxi Province International Cooperation Committee Guo Yanbing thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome. He assured that Chinese partners intend to continue moving towards closer cooperation with the Belarusian region. “First of all, we are interested in economic projects. Brest Oblast has an advantageous location being the western gates of the Eurasian Economic Union. We want to make the most of it. Today we have discussed cooperation opportunities in trade and economy, in various sectors of industry, and in tourism,” the Chinese official noted.
Dmitry Gorodetsky emphasized that cooperation with the PRC is very important for Brest Oblast. China has become the second biggest trade and economic partner for Brest Oblast after Russia. “For nine months, foreign trade neared $320 million, up 1.5 times. We welcome cooperation with Chinese companies. We see good investments dynamics in our region. This year the increase is approximately 40%. I think this visit will allow us to deepen cooperation between Brest Oblast and Shanxi Province, and between our cities,” the deputy governor noted.
