MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - Price growth in Belarus have been declining for the second consecutive month,
BelTA learned from the macroeconomic review of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
“Annual inflation in Belarus slowed to 6.4% in January 2026, following 6.8% the month prior. Price growth has been decreasing for the second straight month. Food inflation slowed to 8.6% compared to the same month last year (after 9% in December), facilitated by a further decline in the growth rate of prices for seasonal vegetables and fruits - to 3.7% from 4.9%. Prices for non-food goods rose by 2.5% (after 3% the previous month) against the backdrop of a strengthening exchange rate,” the EDB said.
In the services sector, inflation accelerated to 8.2% compared to the same month last year, up from 8% in December. The postponement of the scheduled increase in utility tariffs from January to March constrained the growth of prices for services. Core inflation returned to a deceleration trajectory, down to 6.9% after 7.3%.
EDB analysts forecast inflation to be near the updated target of 7% in 2026.
