MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – More than half of components in Russian missile systems Oreshnik [hazelnut] are Belarusian. Belarus President, Chairman of the Belarusian People’s Congress Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 19 December, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted: “Missile production has been mentioned here. It is unavoidable. We need the defensive capability. We have already learned how to make some things in missile production. We keep talking about Oreshnik missile systems… I didn’t really pay attention to it. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin told me: ‘Do you know that more than half of Oreshnik components are of Belarusian make?’ I said come on, it is the first time I hear about it.”

“It turns out that only missiles, which are a complicated piece of technology, are of Russian make. The rest is Belarusian,” the head of state stressed. The president also spoke about further development of missile manufacturing in Belarus. “We need the missile. Russians have this missile. Certainly, we are not going to make Oreshnik. Very expensive. We could do it together with Russians. Moreover, I’ve met with the product engineers, who enable the strategic shield of the Russian Federation among other things. Our kind of people. We talk the same language. We understand each other. One of them even helped build our nuclear potential in the Soviet times. It was called Project Pioneer. And he has liked Belarus since then. He works with pleasure and he has helped a lot with creating the missile deployment area for Oreshnik systems,” the Belarusian leader concluded.
