Lukashenko wants Belarus' 2025 election to be flawless

05/11/2024 14:11
MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The presidential election in Belarus should be untarnished, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the 2025 election, BelTA has learned.

“It has already become a tradition [to have a meeting] at the onset of election campaigns. Our task is to hold the election at a high level, organizationally first of all. As I say, we are doing it for our people, yet we should do it in such a way that no one [from outside] will be able to find a fault with it. Anyway, keep in mind that we are holding the election in Belarus for our people and the interests of our people should be put at the forefront. And not the way someone abroad wants it to be,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.

In his words, first of all, it is necessary to create the appropriate conditions for the candidates and election commissions, to get polling stations ready. “I ask you to look at ballot boxes. If necessary, let's standardize them or set a certain standard for the regions, so that they look nice and neat. It concerns both regular and portable ballot boxes. They should at least look normal,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that since Soviet times, elections have been akin to a holiday for people. “No matter whether it draws criticism or not, but people coming to polling stations are used to seeing a buffet, hearing music there, and so on. This is primarily the responsibility of local authorities,” the president added.
