Nearly half of early spring grain area sown in Belarus

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) - Nearly half of the areas designated for early spring grain and leguminous crops have been sown in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus.

As of 1 April, early spring grain and leguminous crops (excluding corn, buckwheat, and millet) were planted on an area of 256,000 hectares in the country, accounting for 46% of the total planting area of 552,000 hectares.

Brest Oblast planted 80,000 hectares, which accounted for 95% of the designated area; Grodno Oblast - 57,000 hectares (77% of the plan); Minsk Oblast - 41,000 hectares (56%); Gomel Oblast - 36,000 hectares (39%); Mogilev Oblast - 24,000 hectares (21% of the plan); and Vitebsk Oblast - 18,000 hectares (16%).

Flax has been sown on an area of 6,000 hectares in all regions, accounting for more than 12% of the planned 50,000 hectares.

Moisture retention operations were performed on an area of 773,000 hectares, which represented 56% of the planned 1,375,000 hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for spring planting have been accumulated in the amount of 658,000 metric tonnes of active ingredient, which is 79% of the planned 836,000 metric tonnes.

Organic fertilizers for spring planting have been transported in the amount of 47 million metric tons, with 24 million metric tonnes applied to fields, accounting for 50% of the amount transported.
