Number of large families doubles in Belarus since 2009

20/06/2024 14:06
MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – The number of families raising three or more children has doubled in Belarus since 2009, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said at a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic on 20 June, BelTA has learned.

“Our country has been running the family capital program for almost 10 years. Its main result is a steady increase in the number of large families. As of 1 January 2020, there were 104,000 such families, by now their number has exceeded 120,000. Moreover, since 2009, the number of such families has doubled. All in all, as part of the program, family capital has been assigned to 137,000 large families, about Br4 billion was credited to their accounts,” said Igor Petrishenko.

These funds are mostly used to improve living conditions. Last year alone, 10,000 families were able to use family capital for this purpose. “Given that the family capital program is expiring this year, the government is working on conceptual approaches to keep this program running,” the deputy prime minister noted.
