Chronicle of the liberation of Brest Oblast from the Nazi invaders

5 July 1944. Lyakhovichi District: The 54th Guards Rifle Division (Major General M.M. Danilov) of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps of the 28th Army, the 19th Mechanized Brigade (Colonel V. V. Yershov) of the 1st Mechanized Corps of the Cavalry-Mechanized Group of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district.

7 July 1944. Stolin District: During the offensive towards the Baranovichi-Brest axis troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the city of Stolin. The 397th Rifle Division (Colonel M.F. Avdonkin) of the 89th Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district.

7 July 1944. Gantsevichi District: The 89th Rifle Corps (Major General A.Y. Yanovsky) of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front aided by the partisan brigade named after V.I. Lenin (commander V.A. Vasilyev) took part in the liberation of the district.

8 July 1944. Baranovichi: (the administrative center of Baranovichi Oblast in 1939–1954). During the offensive towards the Baranovichi-Slonim axis troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the oblast capital Baranovichi. Twenty-eight units and formations that distinguished themselves during the liberation of the city were given the honorary title "Of Baranovichi". Liberation was secured by the 37th (Colonel V.L. Morozov) and the 75th (Major General V.A. Gorishny) Guards Rifle Divisions of the 65th Army (Colonel General P.I. Batov); 15th (Major General K.Y. Grebanik) and 69th (Major General I.I. Sankovsky) Rifle Divisions of the 18th Rifle Corps; the 193rd Rifle Division (Major General A.R. Frolenkov) and (partly) 44th Guards Rifle Division (Major General V.A. Borisov) of the 105th Rifle Corps, 251st Separate Tank Regiment (Lieutenant Colonel F.S. Verlan), 922nd Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment (Lieutenant Colonel A.V. Sokolov); 28th Army (Lieutenant General A.A. Luchinsky) - 50th Guards Rifle Division (Major General A.S. Vladychansky) of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps, 130th Rifle Division (Colonel K.V. Sychev) of the 123rd Rifle Corps, 881st Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment (Captain L.M. Khachaturyants) of the 3rd Tank Corps; 16th Air Army (Colonel General S.I. Rudenko) - 283rd Fighter Air Division (Colonel S.M. Chirva), (partly) 2nd Guards Assault Air Division (Major General G.I. Komarov), 323rd Fighter Air Division (Colonel P.P. Rybakov), 8th Fighter Air Division (Colonel Y.Z. Tatanashvili), 273rd Fighter Air Division (Colonel M.V. Isayev) of the 6th Fighter Air Corps.

8 July 1944. Gorodishche District: (the administrative center – the town of Gorodishche, now in Baranovichi District). The 323rd Rifle Division (Major General V.T. Maslov) of the 35th Rifle Corps of the 3rd Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

8 July 1944. Novaya Mysh District: (the administrative center – the village of Novaya Mysh, now in Baranovichi District). The 65th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front and partisan units named after A.V. Suvorov and named after M.I. Kutuzov, the Mstitel unit of the partisan brigade named after A.V. Suvorov participated in the liberation of the district. The partisan forces linked up with units of the Soviet Army on 6 July 1944.

9 July 1944. David-Gorodok District: (the administrative center - David-Gorodok, now in Stolin District). During the offensive towards the Luninets-Pinsk axis troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the city of David-Gorodok. The 397th Rifle Division (Colonel M.F. Andonyev) of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

10 July 1944. Byten District: (the administrative center - town of Byten, now in Ivatsevichi District). Units of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

10 July 1944. Luninets District: During the offensive towards the Baranovichi-Brest axis troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the city of Luninets. Seven units and formations that distinguished themselves during the liberation of the city were given the honorary title "Of Luninets". Liberation was secured by the 23rd (Colonel I.V. Basteyev), 55th (Colonel V.P. Shmyglov) Rifle Divisions of the 89th Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front; 1st (Captain 2nd Rank S.M. Lyalko) and 2nd (Captain 2nd Rank V.M. Mitin) brigades of river ships of the Dnieper military flotilla; the partisan brigade named after S.M. Kirov (commander F.I. Lisovich). The partisan brigade linked up with units of the Soviet Army on 8 July 1944.

10 July 1944. Telekhany District: Liberation was secured by the 48th Guards Rifle Division (Major General G.M. Korchikov) of the 20th Rifle Corps of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front and partisan brigade No.99 named after D.T. Gulyayev (commander V.K. Yakovenko), which linked up with units of the Soviet Army on 10 July 1944.

11 July 1944. Kossovo District: (the administrative center - Kossovo, now in Ivatsevichi District). The 19th Mechanized Brigade (Colonel V.V. Yershov), the 75th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment (Lieutenant Colonel P.Y. Karpenko) of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district.

13 July 1944. Ruzhany District: (the administrative center - Ruzhany, now in Pruzhany District). The 28th Army (Lieutenant General A.A. Luchinsky), the 9th Tank Corps (Major General B.S. Bakharov), the Cavalry-Mechanized Group (Lieutenant General I.A. Pliyev ) of the 1st Belarusian Front, the partisan brigade named after P.K. Ponomarenko (commander M.V. Senkin) took part in the liberation of the district.

14 July 1944. Pinsk (the administrative center of Pinsk Oblast in 1939-1954). The city was liberated during an offensive towards the Baranovichi-Brest axis by troops of the 1st Belarusian Front and forces of the Dnieper military flotilla. Eighteen units and formations that distinguished themselves during the liberation of the city were given the honorary title "Of Pinsk". The 55th Guards (Major General A.P. Turchinsky), 55th (Colonel V.P. Shmyglev), 397th (Colonel M.F. Andonyev) Rifle Divisions of the 89th Rifle Corps participated in liberation in addition to the 415th Rifle Division (Colonel P.I. Moshchalkov), 38th (Colonel A.I. Ponomarenko) Cannon Artillery Brigades, 38th Engineer Brigade (Colonel A.M. Pavshuk) of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front; 1st (Captain 2nd Rank S.M. Lyalko), 2nd (Captain 2nd Rank V.M. Mitin) brigades of river boats, the 1st separate guards division of armored boats (Captain-Lieutenant I.P. Mikhailov) of the Dnieper military flotilla.

15 July 1944. Logishin District: (the administrative center – the town of Logishin, now in Pinsk District). The 55th Guards Rifle Division (Major General A.P. Turchinsky) of the 89th Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district. It was assisted by partisan regiment No.208 named after I.V. Stalin (commander Y.N. Bespoyasov). The partisan unit linked up with units of the Soviet Army on 11 July 1944.

15 July 1944. Bereza District: During the offensive in the direction of Brest troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the city of Bereza (15-16 July). The 48th Guards Rifle Division (Major General G.M. Korchikov) of the 20th Rifle Corps of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

16 July 1944. Zhabchitsy District: (the administrative center - the village of Zhabchitsy, now in Pinsk District). The 20th Rifle Division (Colonel I.R. Nesterenko) of the 20th Rifle Corps of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

16 July 1944. Pruzhany District: During the offensive towards the Baranovichi-Brest axis troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the city of Pruzhany (16-17 July). Liberation of the district was secured by the 50th (Major General A.S. Vladychansky), 96th (Major General S.M. Kuznetsov) Guards Rifle Divisions of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps of the 28th Army, 65th Separate Tank Regiment (Lieutenant Colonel V.F. Abikh), 1898th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment (Major V.V. Bogomolov), 63rd Howitzer Artillery Brigade (Colonel K.A. Papa), 157th Cannon Artillery Brigade (Colonel T.K. Kirillov) of the 1st Belarusian Front.

16 July 1944. Ivanovo District: The 48th (Major General G.M. Korchikov), 55th (Major General A.P. Turchinsky) Guards Rifle Divisions of the 20th Rifle Corps of the 28th Army, 12th Guards (Major General D.K. Malkov) and 212th (Colonel V.G. Kuchinev) Rifle Divisions of the 9th Guards Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district.

16 July 1944. Antopol District: (the administrative center - town of Antopol, now in Drogichin District). The 12th Guards Rifle Division (Major General D.K. Malkov) of the 9th Guards Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district.

17 July 1944. Shereshevo District: (the administrative center - the town of Shereshevo, now in Pruzhany District). The 54th Guards Rifle Division (Major General M.M. Danilov) of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

17 July 1944. Drogichin District: The 61st Army (Lieutenant General P.A. Belov) and other units of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

18 July 1944. Zhabinka District: The 20th Infantry Division (Colonel I.R. Nesterenko) of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

20 July 1944. Kobrin District: During the Lublin-Brest operation troops of the 1st Belarusian Front liberated the city of Kobrin. Twelve units and formations that distinguished themselves during the liberation of the city were given the honorary title “Of Kobrin”. Units of the 9th Guards Rifle Corps of the 61st Army participated in the liberation of the district - the 12th Pinsk Guards Rifle Division (Colonel D.K. Malkov) and the 212th Krichev Rifle Division (Colonel V.G. Kuchinev), some units of the 271st Long-Range Night Bomber Air Division (Lieutenant Colonel K.I. Rasskazov) of the 16th Air Army.

20 July 1944. Malorita District: The 76th Guards Rifle Division (Major General A.V. Kirsanov) of the 114th Rifle Corps of the 70th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front; the partisan brigade named after V.I. Lenin (commander V.V. Katkov), which linked up with units of the Soviet Army on 20 July 1944.

21 July 1944. Divin District: (the administrative center – the village of Divin, now in Kobrin District). The 212th Rifle Division (Colonel V.G. Kuchinev) of the 9th Guards Rifle Corps of the 61st Army of the 1st Belarusian Front participated in the liberation of the district.

22 July 1944. Kamenets District: The 50th (Major General A.S. Vladychansky), 54th (Major General M.N. Danilov) Rifle Divisions of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian front.

23 July 1944 Domachevo District: (the administrative center – the village of Domachevo, now in Brest District). The 12th Guards Rifle Division (Major General D.K. Malkov) of the 70th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district.

28 July 1944. Vysokoye District: (the administrative center - the city of Vysokoye, now in Kamenets District). The 54th Guards (Major General M.M. Danilov), 152nd (Colonel A.T. Kuzin) Rifle Divisions of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps of the 28th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front took part in the liberation of the district. They were assisted by the partisan unit “For the Motherland" (commander P.I. Borodkin), which linked up with units of the Soviet Army on 28 July 1944.

28 July 1944. Brest: The city was liberated during the Lublin-Brest offensive operation by troops of the 1st Belarusian Front. Forty-seven units and formations that distinguished themselves during the liberation of the city were given the honorary title "Of Brest". Liberation was secured by the 48th Guards Rifle Division (Lieutenant General G. M. Korchikov) of the 20th Rifle Corps of the 28th Army; 212th (Colonel V.G. Kuchinev), 12th (Colonel D.K. Malkov), 415th (Colonel M.I. Moshchalkov) Rifle Divisions of the 9th Guards Rifle Corps; 38th Guards Cannon Artillery Brigade (Colonel A.I. Ponomarenko), 38th Engineer Brigade (Colonel A.M. Pavshuk) of the 61st Army; part of the 160th Rifle Division (Major General M.S. Timofeyev) of the 114th Rifle Corps of the 70th Army of the 1st Belarusian Front.
