Belarus, Botswana consider ways to develop economic relations

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to South Africa with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Botswana Igor Bely visited the Republic of Botswana on 2-4 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian ambassador met with Ellen Richard-Madisa, Permanent Secretary (First Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Botswana, to discuss ways to boost economic relations between the two countries.

The parties agreed to take steps to develop an institutional framework for strengthening Belarusian-Botswana trade and investment cooperation in agriculture, industry, and high technologies.

Special attention was paid to the prospects for increasing mutual trade and the participation of Belarusian enterprises in Botswana’s economic projects.

The Belarusian ambassador also met with Norman Moleele, CEO of Business Botswana, to talk over concrete steps to develop contacts between the business of the two countries, to establish interaction between Business Botswana and the National Center for Marketing and Price Study.

Igor Bely took part in the conference organized by Botswana President  Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. The event devoted to the future development of this African country and region was attended by the heads of diplomatic missions. The participants of the meeting emphasized the importance of the development of Botswana's agricultural sector and the creation of efficient industries in the country with the participation of foreign capital.

On the sidelines of the conference the Belarusian ambassador met with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Botswana to discuss concrete steps to intensify the bilateral political dialogue, economic ties, and the legal framework of bilateral relations.

At the meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security of Botswana, the Belarusian ambassador emphasized Belarus' possibility to participate in the development of Botswana's agricultural sector. The head of the diplomatic mission also extended an invitation to the Botswana representative to attend the international exhibition Belagro 2024.
