25.08.2026 16:08
BRESTб 25 August (BelTA) - Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast of Russia have reached a new level of economic partnership, the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast said during its 11th meeting in Irkutsk on 25 August, BelTA has learned.

The parties are set to take stock of their interaction in the first half of 2026 and to discuss the projects for the near future. Governor of Irkutsk Oblast Igor Kobzev emphasized that relations with Belarus are maintained at a high level and continue to gain momentum.

“Irkutsk Oblast holds a special place for us among the regions of Russia. With each passing year, we take new and more steps toward closer cooperation. The results of the first half of 2026 indicate that we have reached a new level of economic partnership: the trade has increased 3.6 times, with domestic exports going up 11.5%,” noted Piotr Parkhomchik, Governor of Brest Oblast, the point man in the Belarusian government on cooperation between Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast.

The parties are committed to using the existing potential to strengthen their trade and economic partnership. “A well-developed machine-building complex allows us to offer a wide range of passenger, special-purpose, and agricultural machinery. We have good reserves for increasing the supply of elevator equipment, both for replacement projects and for equipping new housing stock. Belarusian industrial enterprises are interested in cooperation with Irkutsk Oblast,’ Piotr Parkhomchik said. He assured that Belarus expects to continue maintaining high growth rates in food trade and to expand cooperation in the supply of dairy products, processed vegetables and fruits.

The working group is focused on fostering mutually beneficial cooperation and industrial ties, including in aircraft manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, road infrastructure, ecology, and the humanitarian matters.

Belarus’ delegation in Irkutsk is set to tour enterprises, to participate in the Baikal International Partners Forum, a business matchmaking event for exporters/importers, and a trade and procurement session for retail chains.
