TASHKENT, 7 February (BelTA) - Belarus and Uzbekistan will implement projects worth more than $1 billion in 2024-2025, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats told reporters during the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan in Tashkent, BelTA has learned.
On the sidelines of the forum, Leonid Zayats held talks with his Uzbek counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev.
According to the Belarusian vice-premier, the parties came to an agreement across the entire cooperation agenda: “This includes cooperation in manufacturing, agriculture, processing industry, humanitarian matters, education, sports and tourism, personnel training for the forestry industry, urban planning, housing and utility services - a wide range of issues. Our arrangements were formalized by 99 documents worth $1.054 billion.”
This includes export contracts and investment projects. Their implementation period is 2024-2025. These projects will be the core of the cooperation roadmap for the next two years. “We will take these matters under control so that not a single point, not a single position is left behind,” said Leonid Zayats.
In 2018-2022, bilateral trade increased 3.2 times. In 2023, it rose by another 12% to exceed $565 million.
“We can do even better,” Leonid Zayats is sure. “There are a lot of things that are of interest to Belarus in Uzbekistan, and Uzbekistan has great interest in Belarus,” he added.
In particular, Belarus wants to set up a joint venture to make children's food in Uzbekistan, assemble passenger vehicles of Minsk Automobile Plant, and launch enterprises in the textile industry. A joint production of tractors for cotton cultivation is also in the works.
