Brest Fortress draws 265,000 visitors in January-May 2026

17.06.2026 14:06
MOSCOW, 17 June (BelTA) – The Brest Hero Fortress complex has drawn 265,000 visitors since the beginning of 2026, director Aleksandr Korkotadze said at a Moscow-Brest video conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, BelTA has learned.

“In 2021-2025, we had almost 2.8 million visitors. The museum staff conducted nearly 56,000 tours. This year, in January-May, we have had 265,00 visitors,’ Aleksandr Korkotadze noted. ‘This shows that people both in the Union State and in the former republics of the Soviet Union and also from other countries  want to learn the truth about the war. This is especially true for foreign tourists who, despite all kinds of obstacles, still break through to us, walk through our exhibitions and displays. I have repeatedly heard telling our staff: ‘Thank you for the memory. We in Europe, unfortunately, have not safeguarded it. It is now being distorted’.”

“A paradoxical situation arises: the more they lie abroad about the Soviet Union’s participation in World War II, the more citizens want to learn the truth. It is no coincidence that the Belarusian president made the decision to waive visas for European countries so that people could come to us. This is the position of a strong nation, because we have nothing to hide. We tell the truth,” he said.

According to him, Brest Fortress offers answers to modern challenges. “To learn from our ancestors how they not only to withstood but also won in such a brutal war. Brest Fortress provides answers to contemporary questions,” Aleksandr Korkotadze added.
