BREST, 22 February (BelTA) - Representatives of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly visited polling stations in Brest on 21 February, BelTA has learned.
A group of international observers visited several polling stations in the regional center. "We will deliver our opinion after the polls close. Today we can say that all polling stations opened on time and are working. The members of the commissions are qualified," said Sergey Karavaev, advisor to the CIS IPA Council secretary general.
Observers watched the voting process and analyzed the turnout on 20 February. It was noted that everything complies with the law. "Voters are coming. The numbers show that early voting is convenient for voters. The process is underway," Sergei Karavaev added.
Brest Oblast has set up 838 polling stations for early voting. "People are actively taking advantage of the opportunity to vote early. On 20 February, the turnout was 6.13%. I don't remember such a high turnout. Usually it was 4-4.5%, or 5% at most," said Chairman of the Brest Oblast Election Commission Aleksandr Koleda.
All in all, there are 996,054 people on the voters’ lists in Brest Oblast. On the single voting day, February 25, there will be 870 polling stations in Brest Oblast, including 32 in healthcare organizations and military units. 5,860 observers have been accredited to monitor the parliamentary and local elections in Brest Oblast.
