BREST, 25 August (BelTA) – Belarus aims to forge closer ties with Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast in industry, pharmaceuticals, and social welfare. This information was shared during the 11th meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast on 25 August, BelTA has learned.
The current meeting is taking place on Russian territory. It is co-chaired by Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik (responsible for coordinating cooperation on the Belarusian side), and Governor of Irkutsk Oblast Igor Kobzev. The parties reviewed the results of their interaction in detail and outlined projects for work in the near term. It was noted that the key areas for cooperation are industrial cooperation, supplies of Belarusian machinery, pharmaceuticals, education, and tourism.
Thus, one of the priorities is joint work in aircraft manufacturing, cooperation in component production, and maintenance of commercial aircraft. Belarus is actively integrating into the production chains of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. The parties are expanding their partnership in training, retraining, and professional development.
Belarus remains fully open to machinery and transport shipments. Domestic companies are securing contracts with partners in Irkutsk Oblast and expanding their distribution network. The country exports mining dump trucks (BelAZ), heavy-duty trucks (MAZ), agricultural machinery (MTZ, Gomselmash), and forestry equipment (Amkodor) to the Russian region. Mogilevliftmash stands ready to deliver comprehensive elevator equipment solutions for local housing stock modernization and major overhaul initiatives. Particular focus is placed on road construction and transport infrastructure, where Brest-based STiM group of companies plays a key role, manufacturing everything from specialized machinery to advanced road marking materials. Additionally, partnership has been forged in industrial equipment and veterinary safety.
Belarus traditionally holds a strong foothold in the food sector. The country stands ready scale up supplies of food products and agricultural raw materials to Irkutsk Oblast. In 2026, the export range was expanded, featuring butter, skimmed milk powder, processed cheese, pickled cucumbers, and chocolate.
Economic cooperation goes hand in hand with humanitarian engagement. The parties are developing joint healthcare projects, including pharmaceuticals supplies and medical technology exchanges. Leading medical centers maintain direct ties in pediatric oncohematology, cardiology, reproductive health, and infection control. Educational institutions of Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast have signed 28 direct inter-university agreements, with new scientific cooperation projects currently being coordinated. Furthermore, cultural and tourism ties continue to grow stronger.
