MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – At the meeting with the head and coordinators of his initiative group, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko asked journalists to convey something to heads of media organizations, BelTA has learned.
Addressing the journalists, the head of state said: “I would ask the journalists to tell their bosses: if any of the presidential candidates who are collecting signatures wants to say something the way I am saying it now, offer your platform to them (other candidates who are collecting signatures to be nominated as presidential candidates]. If they don't want it, that is their right.”
The president urged to maintain a balance in this matter. “Otherwise they will find fault with it again. It is not so much about how many signatures have been collected [by the initiative groups]. It is more important for me how this process is going, what people are saying. It is important for me because I am the president. Though it might not be important for other candidates. Nevertheless, let them have a media appearance of at least several minutes to update the public on progress in their signature collection. Just like I am doing it now,” the president said.
