MINSK, 29 February (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, when hearing a report on the development of domestic football, commented on the conflict between Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk and Chairman of the Belarusian Football Federation Nikolai Sherstnev, BelTA has learned.
"They say the new head of the federation and the sport and tourism minister are not on friendly terms. They say they can't work with each other. You don’t say so! Outrageous! There is even nothing to fight over there!" Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
He drew attention to the results in domestic football and in the sport in general: "People do not need such sport. No one will finance it from the budget. I'm afraid to even raise the topic of football. We used to be head and shoulders above some teams from neighboring countries. And now?!"
The president set a strict condition for everyone. "If there is no significant progress in sport, if there are no normal showings, please do not hope to hold onto your jobs. Understand me as you wish," the head of state said.
