Lukashenko honors six cities for valor and perseverance during war

06.05.2025 20:05
MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko presented the pennant “For valor and perseverance during the Great Patriotic War” to six cities - Kobrin, Rechitsa, Slonim, Senno, Slavgorod and Smolevichi during a solemn assembly to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War in Minsk on 6 May, BelTA learned.

The head of state handed the pennants to six Belarusian cities that are examples of heroism and nationwide resistance demonstrated during the Great Patriotic War.

The president noted that the presentation of such symbols has become another good tradition of modern Belarus. In this way, the society keeps alive the memory not only of those feats that are widely known, such as the Brest Fortress, the battles of Minsk, Mogilev, and Smolensk, the battles of Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk. But also the memory of the role played by small towns. “They fought and contributed a lot to the Victory. More than half a million fought in the resistance movement (we call them partisan units) in Belarus,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We have honored, honor and will honor the great feat of our people to make sure this tragedy would never happen on our land again. And if, God forbid, it happens, we will all rise, as they did, and become the Brest fortress on the way of any aggressor”.
