Sowing of flax, sugar beet nearing completion in Belarus

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – The sowing of flax and sugar beet is nearing completion in Belarus, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food told BelTA.

“According to operational data as of 29 April, spring crops have been sown across 1.252 million hectares, which represents 55% of the total planned sowing area of 2.294 million hectares,” the press service reported.

The regional breakdown is the following: Grodno Oblast – 205,000 hectares (62% of plan), Brest Oblast – 248,000 hectares (60%), Vitebsk Oblast – 186,000 hectares (58%), Mogilev Oblast – 174,000 hectares (53%), Minsk Oblast – 260,000 hectares (52%), Gomel Oblast – 179,000 hectares (45%).

Flax has been sown on 44,000 hectares, which is 99% of the plan (44,000 hectares). Corn has been sown on 347,000 hectares (27% of the plan of 1.283 million hectares). The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast – 35%, Grodno Oblast – 33%, Minsk Oblast – 28%, Vitebsk Oblast – 26%, Gomel Oblast – 21%, Mogilev Oblast – 17%.

Spring rapeseed sowing has been completed on 34,000 hectares, which is 87% of the plan of 40,000 hectares.

Sugar beet has been sown on over 105,000 hectares, which is 99% of the planned area of 106,000 hectares.

Mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for the 2026 spring sowing have been accumulated in the amount of 777,000 tonnes of active ingredient, which is 93% of the plan.

Organic fertilizers applied for spring sowing amount to 39 million metric tonnes, which is 75% of the amount hauled out.

Potatoes have been planted across the country on 5,000 hectares, which is 22% of the plan of 22,000 hectares. The regional breakdown is the following: Grodno Oblast – 32%, Brest Oblast – 28%, Gomel Oblast – 27%, Minsk Oblast – 27%, Vitebsk Oblast – 7%, Mogilev Oblast – 6%.
