Second stage of China-sponsored public welfare housing project begins in Brest Oblast
A solemn ceremony took place in Brest on 25 January to begin the second stage of the project to build public welfare homes in Brest Oblast using China's technical and economic aid, BelTA has learned.
The first stage of the project was implemented in Brest Oblast in 2017, with two 80-apartment houses commissioned in Brest and another two in Pinsk. The next stage provides for building another three public welfare homes in Brest Oblast. A nine-story house for 81 families will be built in Baranovichi. A seven-story house with 63 apartments will be erected in Pinsk. A five-story house with 40 apartments will be built in Zhabinka.
Sergei Lobodinsky, Deputy Chairman of the Architecture and Civil Engineering Committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, said: “Building homes for vulnerable population categories is a priority in Belarus' social and economic policy. Regions with the largest number of people in need of housing were selected for implementing the project.”
The total cost of housing construction exceeds Br9.7 million. A Chinese company acts as the general contractor while the local civil engineering company Brestzhilstroy is the subcontractor. The three houses are supposed to be commissioned in July 2018.
Maksim Antonyuk, Deputy Chairman of the Zhabinka District Executive Committee, said: “We expect the 40-apartment house to give homes to virtually all our orphans and children deprived of parental care. At present there are 89 people on the waiting list, with 36 people eligible for public welfare homes.”
A total of 22 houses with 1,854 apartments will be built in Belarus as part of the second stage of the project to build public welfare homes using China's aid. “We can definitely say that there will be a third stage, too. Its technical and economic feasibility has been completed already,” stressed Chen You Jin, First Secretary of the Office of the Trade and Economy Counsellor of the Embassy of China in Belarus. “This project will give an impulse to Belarus' social and economic development. It symbolizes the high level of strategic partnership between our countries.”
